1st Entry, 01-31-09

Well,

Today is the day.  As I write this I sit at gate G4 waiting to board my hop to Tokyo.  The flight from Orlando to here was pretty uneventful, with the exception of the kid sitting behind me who felt my seat was a punching bag.  I managed to get a window seat, which did allow me the rare treat of seeing snow covered landscape for the last half-hour of my flight.  Quite a treat for a dyed in the wool Florida boy for whom snow is a decadal event.  Strangely enough I don’t really feel nervous like I have the last two times that I have flown to China.  I think having Jeff (my friend of over 10 years) and my grandparents see me off helped to finish the internal transition from the fear of the unknown to accepting the challenges of my upcoming future.  My only fopah so far is my failure to get in touch with Ning (my girlfriend) before leaving for my flight from Orlando.  I sent an email but…. I don’t know if she will see it before having a long period of fret and worry.

The upcoming flight will be one of 12.5 hours, not my cup of tea.  The silver lining to is that I will be flying on a Boeing 747 which I have always been curious to fly due to it being so freaking big.  I hope the food is tasty because the meals are about the only thing that break up the monotony of the long flight.  That’s all for now, more when I arrive and get camped out at my gate in Toyko.
